| Originally made of straw, St Brigid's Cross is commonly hung over the doorway and is believed to protect the household and invoke the blessing of Ireland's most important female saint. St Brigid is the patron of crafts, poets, healers, midwives and doctors. Her feast day is February 1st.
St. Brigid built the first Irish Convent and was well known for her kindness to both people and animals. The legend of St. Brigid's Cross tells the story of how the saint wove a cross made from rushes as she explained the Passion of Our Lord to a dying pagan man.
This special St. Brigid Cross was hand-made in Ireland by the Wild Goose Studio in Kinsale, Co. Cork. Skilled craft workers and designers create unique handmade creations with a bronze finish. Measures 6" x 6". |
